SBHRS Meetings and General Activities

We are normally open to the public on Tuesday evenings from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturdays from 10:00am to 3:00pm, except for Christmas and New Years Day.
General membership meetings may be held on the 2nd Tuesday of even numbered months starting at 7:00pm. These informal meetings may consist of railroad slide or video presentations, interactive discussions, how-to clinics, or workshops.
Membership business meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of odd numbered months starting at 7:00pm. These meetings are intended for members of the organization and invited guests and are used to conduct official Society business.
Other Tuesday evenings are for operating and working on the HO and N scale model railroad displays, general interactive discussions, train watching, and socializing.
Saturdays are devoted to working on various Santa Clara Depot and Tower complex renovation and maintenance projects, weather permitting. After renovation and maintenance projects are completed, we also spend time working and running on the HO and N scale model railroad displays.
Members may work on the scale model railroad displays on other days by becoming involved in informal workgroups or special interest groups.

Membership

General SBHRS Membership Information

Our membership is always open and we are looking for new members wishing to enjoy themselves and participate in our many activities, ranging from historical building renovation to the building and the operating of scale model railroad displays. Experience is not necessary. We have members with all levels and areas of expertise. We learn new skills from each other while doing the work.

Membership:

Active members are expected to volunteer 12 hours of service per month. All work time is recorded electronically. Each visit to the museum is recorded in the Attendance Log. All members are required to help clean up the buildings and surrounding grounds on a continuous basis.

Members use their own model train equipment on the museum’s two layouts during the hours of operation. They must follow all the rules and regulations for using the two layouts. Children of members age 12 and under require direct parental supervision at all times while on the layouts, and parents of children aged 13 must remain in the building while on the layouts. The minimum age for using the layouts is 10.

For those wishing to join and participate in our organization’s activities, the tax-deductible initial membership and monthly donations are currently as follows:
