Welcome to the

South Bay Historical Railroad Society

Community Service

Overview of the SBHRS Community Service Programs

The SBHRS provides support to the community through guided tours and history presentations of the Santa Clara Depot and Switch Tower. All presentations include a discussion on railroad safety and show an Operation Lifesaver video to help children and adults understand safety around railroads.  All visits include viewing of the model railroads. We have two programs that we present.

Classroom in a Historical Setting
The first program provides a classroom for students in a historical setting. We bring a class of students into the depot and discuss history and science related to railroads. This program is mostly focused for grades 1 through 6, but it can be tailored for other grades.

Program for Youth Organizations
The second program is for youth groups (Cub Scouts, YMCA, and others). We provide a railroad safety presentation, history of the depot, along with other items that are relevant to the group as determined by the group leaders.

General Information
There is no charge to these groups, but donations are welcome and appreciated. Additional information about the educational programs can be obtained by contacting us at (408) 243-3969 or sending an email to the SBHRS Events Coordinator. All arrangements are handled by the SBHRS Events Coordinator.

The SBHRS also provides meeting rental space in a unique and historical atmosphere to businesses and members of the community at large.
